LAKE FOREST
INTRODUCTION
a brief
Lake Forest, incorporated in 1861, is a quiet upscale community located 30 miles north of Chicago along Lake Michigan. It is known for it’s legendary estates and rich history, Lake Forest real estate offers residents true luxury in a picturesque setting. Historic estates built by legendary architects, such as Howard Van Doren Shaw and David Adler, are among newer homes sitting along the beautiful, tree-lined streets. Today, new construction homes, townhomes and condominiums have been carefully added to maintain Lake Forest’s character and preserve the community’s architectural history.
Transportation
Accessibility: Route 41 is the main highway that runs through the middle of Lake Forest and merges into the Edens Expressway (I-94) in Northbrook. Sheridan Road runs along the Lake, merging into Lake Shore Drive as you head into the city.
Metra: Union Pacific North line stop at Lake Forest (66 minutes to the Loop) on the east side of town and Milwaukee District North line stop at Lake Forest (62 minutes to the Loop) on the west side of town.
Shopping & Dining
Market Square is the heart of the town offering a mix of national retail stores, local boutiques, restaurants and more. During the summer there is a weekly farmers market and a celebrated art show set up around of the Square right in the center of town. Northbrook Court, Old Orchard and Hawthorne Center are major regional malls located in nearby communities.
Schools
Lake Forest School District offers residents exceptional education. Students attend the district schools up through their graduation from Lake Forest High School, which also serves Lake Bluff and Knollwood. There are also many private school options, including the prestigious Lake Forest Academy. The area is also served by Lake Forest College and Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Recreation
In addition to the Lake Forest Recreation Center and the wide variety of leisure programs offered through the Park District, Lake Forest provides unique offerings such as the wildlife preserve and discovery center at Elewa Farm. Lake Forest has a beautiful beach that welcomes swimmers, sailors, kayakers and those just looking to enjoy the serene beauty of Lake Michigan.
